50001

Friday night, 11pm, I finally finished my NaNovel. It is exactly 50001 words. My luck. I know it has lots of room for expansion though, because I didn't manage to say as much in the last scene as I wanted to. And I need to make her torture much more graphic and impactful.

Things I've learnt during NaNoWriMo

-It is easy to write 1667 words in a day.
-therefore, it isn't too bad if I leave my 1000 word assignments to the last night before they're due ^_^

-In fact, it's easy to write 3000 words a day, if I really try

-SO much of what authors write is filler. If you're wondering why something is in a book, and what relevance it has to the story, it's probably filler.

-It's really fun to torture your characters

-I suck at writing sex scenes. So much that I only did it for the word count. They will be edited out, or fade to black

-That people really do look at you strangely when you're walking along, mumbling your current plot crisis to yourself and trying to figure it out

-That hands hurt when you type 5000 words in approximately 3 hours

-Plot bunnies attack you at the most inappropriate times. Like when you're trying to finish the first story!!!

-That drawing my characters helps. The sketch I drew of my character on the bus turned out blind and ghost-pregnant (you know, like when you have the ghost limb. It feels like it's there, but it isn't)

-Back up. Back up a million times.

-I need a new laptop. Your laptop freezing just as you hit 50K is NOT good for relaxation. It also ruins the OMG I WON! feeling.

-Music helps me write, especially when I put in headphones and turn it up so loud that no-one else can hear me.

-And lastly, that I'm going to do it next year. I don't care if I'm in the middle of year 12 exams, I'm doing it.

-Oh, and that  50 cans of soft drink in two weeks WILL make you gain about 5-6kg. Don't try it.

Now that I'm finished, I get a free paperback copy of my book, after I've edited. I can't wait!
